Betty Lindberg, 92

Betty Lindberg, 92, of Kennedy, Minnesota passed away peacefully at Kittson Memorial Nursing Home in Hallock, Minnesota on March 29th, 2023 with family by her side.

Betty (Rudisill) Lindberg was born on March 28th, 1931 to Alvin and Marian Rudisill from Backoo, ND. She was born upstairs in the home of her grandmother, Bernice Junkins in Drayton, ND. Betty, and her only brother Alvin “Bud,” spent their early years in the small town of Backoo, population 28. They attended a one-room school about a quarter mile from town to which they walked every day.

In 1941, the family moved across the river to Kennedy, MN. Betty and Bud lived a wonderful life growing up in Kennedy with family and friends. Betty loved following the Kennedy Rockets sporting events and Saturday night dances in Halma.

Betty graduated from Kennedy High School in 1949. After graduation she attended Moorhead State Teachers College for 2 years, graduating with a degree in elementary education and taught school in Karlstad, MN. She married Charlie Lindberg on September 25th, 1951. These two lovebirds eloped, against the wishes of her parents, who said it would never last. How wrong they were! They celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Betty and Charlie raised two children, Patti (Tom) Gustafson and Barry Lindberg. Betty was mostly a stay at home mom, but in the 70’s she joined Charlie at the Tech Aides store in Kennedy where Charlie manufactured the tech aides units in the back of the building and Betty worked out front selling carpet, flooring, wallpaper, and paint. They sold the store in 1978 and in 1979 built their dream home on Kennedy’s west side, where they resided until July of 2016.

Betty and Charlie enjoyed life! Hosting all the holidays and making each one so special for their family, especially their four grandchildren. Some of Betty’s hobbies included needlework, especially hardanger and cross stitch, playing bridge, dancing, fishing, camping, and volunteering. The Kennedy Senior Center, Kittson Memorial Nursing Home, and Kittson County Museum were three of their favorite places to be!

Betty enjoyed her years in the nursing home and loved attending all the activities, especially BINGO. She had quite a collection of winnings and she made sure she passed those out to her great grandchildren while visiting as well as all other kids that came to visit at the nursing home. She enjoyed playing cards with Patti and her many friends. Her years there were good and she was happy.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Patti; four grandchildren, Matt (Becca) Gustafson, Steven Gustafson, Krista (Louis) Medina, and Molly (Brett) Sobolik; six great grandchildren, Siri and Hannah Medina, Nora, Blake, and Josie Sobolik, and Will Gustafson; her brother, Alvin (Jan) Rudisill and family; sister-in-law, Carol Carlson, and niece, Andrae Carlson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lindberg; son Barry Lindberg; parents Alvin and Marian Rudisill, son-in-law, Thomas Gustafson, sister in law Verles Skaren, brothers in law Roy Carlson and Clarence Skaren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy, Minnesota. Interment will be held at Kennedy City Cemetery this spring. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Austin Funeral Chapel, Hallock.
