Obituary/Ruth Jensen, 55
October 26, 2026
Ruth Jensen, 55
Ruth Jensen, 55, of Detroit Lakes, MN, departed this life on Sunday,
October 18, 2026, in HIA Heather House of Fargo, ND, after receiving
Last Rites.
Ruth Ivalo Harper was born on July 30, 1971, in Cleveland, OH, to Ivalo
M. Harper. Blessed with the same old family name, seven-year-old Ruth
moved with her mom, stepdad, brother, and grandparents (John and Ruth
Harper nee. Wikstrom) to Strandquist, MN, where she later graduated from
high school. In 1987, she was married to Scott Syverson and they made
their home on a farm outside Karlstad, MN, where she raised two
children. Christina remembers long walks with their dog, Queenie, and
swimming at Florian Park, while Micheal has fond memories of summer days
on the farm catching frogs and nights at home watching movies. Ruth was
a person who was nurturing and loving, always advocating for her family
and being there to help. Following a divorce, Ruth moved to Thief River
Falls (living for a time with her son) and working at Pathfinders doing
overnights with disadvantaged youths. She moved between TRF and East
Grand Forks, MN, several times in her life, each time putting others
before herself. Always positive, Ruth took great joy in nature, loved
all animals (especially her two dogs, Bogart and Victor), hiking state
parks with Nathan, and tending to growing things.
While working at Digikey, Ruth met Nathan Jensen. In 2009, before her
marriage to Nathan on August 11, 2011, Ruth entered the Church with the
help of Deacon Steve Thomas, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She
nurtured a faith life that fit well with her thoughtfulness, love of
nature, and concern for the “little ones” of the world. All who knew
her can attest to her finest quality: her Big Heart. Her favorite place
to be was with others, especially her husband, and sitting in their
presence, even if in silence.
Even with cancer ending her life, Ruth was positive until the end,
keeping her mind on her family and knowing that “in all things God
works for the good of those who love Him.” And she loved Him very
much.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Nathan Jensen; children, Christina
(Jeremy) St. Pierre and Micheal Syverson (April) both of Karlstad, MN;
grandchildren, Marienna, Kaden, Claire, Isaac and Ivalo; her in-laws,
Ron and Jane Jensen of Warren, MN; and brother, John D. (Sarah) Ombler
Jr; nephew and nieces, Eric, Paige, and Josie.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ivalo and John
David Ombler Sr.
