Beth Grandstrand, 87

Beth Grandstrand, 87, of Karlstad, Minnesota passed away at her daughter’s home in Thompson, North Dakota as we sang hymns and read scripture to her at sunrise on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023.

Adele Beth Germundson was born February 10, 1936, to Bert and Agnes (Prosser) Germundson in the Greenbush Hospital. Beth was baptized and confirmed in the faith at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. After her mother passed away when Beth was five, her paternal grandmother, Annie, lived with her and her dad. Letters written by her mother before she died, lead her to her faith in the Lord; her Dad and grandmother continued what her mother started.

Beth married Dale Grandstrand on April 25, 1953. The couple farmed west of Karlstad for many years. Beth was a helper in the field and delivered many meals to the field. She did countless jobs including milking cows, picking stones and stumps, combining, digging, and cutting potatoes! Her hobby was trying new recipes. Dale was her perfect tester because he loved to eat whatever she tried. She was very active in her church in early years; co-president of ALCW, secretary, secretary of stewardship, Sunday School teacher, VBS and weekday schoolteacher and served on the church board. She loved little children and cared for most of her grandchildren before they started school. Many great memories were made with her grandchildren on the farm.

Beth is survived by her children, Audrey Kasprowicz, Baudette, MN, Dalene (Roger) Jacobson, Thompson, ND and Darin (Heather) Grandstrand, Horace, ND; grandchildren, Matt Kasprowicz, Drayton, ND, Josh (Natasha) Kasprowicz, Baudette, MN, Breana (Nathan) Berberich, Thompson, ND, Abby Kasprowicz, Grand Forks, MN, Tyrone Grandstrand, St.Paul, MN, Tyneal (Tyler) Beckius, Harwood, ND, Tatum (Chelshey) Grandstrand, Wahpeton, ND, Jake Grandstrand, Grand Forks, ND; step grandchildren, Kristoffer Nielson, Duluth, MN, Tatum and Jack Olson, Horace, ND; great grandchildren, Hannah, Ellamae and RaeLee Kasprowicz, McKenzie and Lincoln Kasprowicz, Reece, Carly and Nora Dale Berberich, Tymber and Tylullah Beckius. Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents, Bert and Agnes Germundson; stepmother, Lily Germundson and a grandson, Derek Jacobson.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Karlstad. Interment will be in Karlstad City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Gary Halverson, presiding. Special music, Macyn Lofstrom, Wendy Smith and Krista Pietruszewski, soloists, Kirstin Olson, organist. Casket bearers will be Beth’s grandchildren. Honorary Casket Bearer, Derek Jacobson (1978-1999).
