Board of Education Meeting

May 17, 2023, 6:30 PM Tri-County School Library

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Murray at 6:30 PM. A quorum was determined. The Pledge ofAllegiance was recited.

Members present were Burkel, Hanson, Koland, Murray, Oliver, Olson and Sollund, as well as Interim Superintendent Guggisberg.

Motion by Burkel and seconded by Sollund to approve the agenda of the May 17, 2023, Regular Board meeting as presented.

WE ARE PROUD ...

I am proud of my students (as well as the shop students) for the creative work they completed throughout this year that was on display at the Annual Student Art Show at Tri County. Students from the following classes had projects on display: Family Consumer Science (FCS) 7, Art 8, Art 9, Art I, Art II, Art Ill, Textiles, Shop 9, Cabinetry, Welding. My art students worked with a variety of media this year, explored a variety of themes, and produced work to be proud of! In textiles, my four different students created 4 different quilt patterns. In FCS 7, my students are learning how to sew and the hand-sewn felt pennants that they designed were on display. Mr. Thompson’s Shop 9, Cabinetry and Welding classes displayed their projects including plasma cut metal designs, cutting boards, nightstands, and a welded cart they made. of Boys Basketball Coach, Mr. Spilde, for being selected as the Conference Coach of the Year.

Motion by Sollund and seconded by Burkel to approve the minutes of the April 19, 2023, Regular Board Meeting.

May 2023 pay claims.

Motion by Burkel and seconded by Olson to approve the May Pay Claims in the amount of $93,278.09 UC

School staffing moving forward to 2023-2024 was discussed.

Motion by Board Member Burkel and seconded by Sollund to approve Mr. Grant Oistad as a licensed High School Social Studies teacher effective with the 2023-2024 school year. UC

Motion by Board Member Oliver and seconded by Hanson to approve Mrs. McKinzie Schulz as a 4th grade Elementary teacher effective with the 2023-2024 school year. UC

Resolution to Renew Membership in MN State High School League

Minnesota Statute requires individual school boards each year to authorize membership in the MNSHSL. The Resolution for Membership affirms; (1) that the Board of Education for each school delegates the control, supervision, and regulation of League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities to the MNSHSL; (2) that the School Board adopts the Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations of the League; and (3) that the administration for and activities are assigned to the official school representative.

Resolution brought forward by Board Member ___ and seconded by ________ to renew the Tri- County School District’s membership in the MN State High School League for the 2023-2024 School Year.

Roll call vote: In Favor: Burkel, Hanson, Koland, Murray, Oliver, Olson and Sollund.

Against: None.

School Board Training facilitated by MN School Boards Association (MSBA) [Excerpted from previous School Board Meeting Agenda(s)]

The Greenbush Middle River School Board along with the Tri-County School Board will be sharing a School Superintendent effective July 1, 2023. The two Boards formalized this sharing arrangement with the creation of a Joint Powers Board.

Additionally, both the Greenbush Middle River School District along with the Tri-County School District will have a new K-12 Principal in their school.

To assist with a successful transition to new school administration, both the Greenbush Middle River School Board and the Tri-County School Board will separately participate in a School Board training session facilitated by the MN School Boards Association. Greenbush School Board will participate in this training on April 19 in Greenbush. The Tri-County School Board was originally scheduled to participate in this training on April 20 but due to a snow event the training was rescheduled to May 18 in Karlstad.

Superintendent reported on the 2023 MN Legislative session and its impact on PreK-12 Public Education.

Motion by member Burkel and seconded by member Oliver to adjourn.

AGENDA for the meeting of the Administrative Negotiations Committee of the Board of Education to be held in the School Library at the Tri County School site in Karlstad on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 6:00 PM.

Negotiations Committee Members: Raeya Hanson, Mark Koland and Denise Sollund.

The meeting was called to order and roll call taken.

The purpose of the meeting was to negotiate an employee Agreement between the Board of Education of the Tri County School District and the recommended candidate (Mrs. Dalia Englund) for K-12 Principal of the Tri County School District.
