Patricia “Patsy” Boen, 74

Patricia “Patsy” Boen, 74, a lifelong Karlstad area resident passed away surrounded by her family at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota on December 31, 2023.

Patricia Faye Fossell was born in Hallock on March 9, 1949, to Randolph and Amy (Eikeland) Fossell. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Karlstad Public School, graduating in 1967. On December 31, 1967, she married Gerald Boen at Hegland Lutheran Church. Patricia and Gerald would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary the day she passed away.

Patsy had a long working career in the Karlstad Community, from the local bank to Mike’s Hartz Store. Most of her working years were spent at the Karlstad School, where she was kind of a “Jack of all Trades,” cooking, cleaning, and maintaining the building. She retired at the age of 65. Patricia and Gerald’s most important role was bringing care to over 50 children as foster parents. Patricia was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Family members include her husband, Gerald; sons, Shannon (Darla) Boen, Thief River Falls, MN and Chad (Sue) Boen, Thompson, ND; a daughter, Jennifer Boen; grandchildren, Ashley (Nick) Beito, Blake (Emily) Boen, Olivia, Drew, Greta, and Carson Boen; great grandchildren; Brevyn and Navy Beito and Elowen Boen; sisters, Connie (Bob) Engler, Roseau, MN and Peggy Lawrence, Thief River Falls; brothers, Scott Fossell and Todd (Bonnie) Fossell, both of Karlstad; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in First Lutheran Church, Karlstad. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.
