Shirley Ann (Farbo) Nordine of Concord, CA passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024 at Karlstad Senior Living.

Shirley was born May 30, 1937 to Calmer and Harriet (Norland) Farbo at Hallock, Minnesota. She grew up on the family farm in McKinley Township of Kittson County and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1954. Following graduation, she went to live with her aunt and uncle in the Los Angeles area where she attended business school. Her soulmate, Dennis W. Nordine spent 4 years in the Air Force before their marriage on July 28, 1956 in Lancaster, MN. They lived briefly in Minneapolis before making California their home.

Shirley and Dennis raised three children, Gregg, Rhonda and Todd. Shirley worked over 40 years for Contra Costa County Hospital. Whenever Dennis was traveling with his company, Shirley always had her bags packed and accompanied him. Shirley’s job always took her back when she returned. One job was supposed to be six months in Hawaii and ended up being three years. Shirley loved all three years. It was all about family and friends at the Nordine house, the more the merrier. Retiring at 60, it was all about fun, doing and going! Shirley would put time in at the local Moose Lodge in Concord, as well as doing events, fundraising and delivering meals on wheels. She truly loved people of all walks of life. She never met a stranger. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. If you messed up, she let you know!

Shirley moved back to the area after 68 years in California, saying she would never move back to cold Minnesota again. She had fallen and broken her hip in California. It was decided after six weeks to sell her house and move her to Minnesota. Shirley moved in April of 2022 and entered Kittson Memorial Nursing Home. When she finished rehabilitation, she moved to Lancaster Senior Apartments. Then Karlstad Senior Living became her home for the last year.

She is survived by her children, Gregg (Lisa) Nordine, Rhonda (John) Deere and Todd (Kim) Nordine; grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Cheryl King, sisters-in-law, Vicki Farbo, Barb Nordine, Nancy Nordine, Mae Osborne and Jan Hurd; as well as nieces and nephews; and a special aunt, Verna Lyberg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis (1987), parents, Harriet and Calmer Farbo, stepfather, Lloyd Farbo; in-laws, Martin and Hedvig Nordine; brother, Forrest Farbo; brothers-in-law, Brian King, Donald, Roger, Ken Nordine, Rick Abney and Tom Osborne.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 27th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Sion Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Garden Cemetery, Lancaster.
