Evald Kujava, 97, of Florian, died on Monday, September 2, 2024, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Evald John was born on July 12, 1927 in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN, to Peter and Katherine (Przybylski) Kujava. He attended school in Florian, and was a lifelong member of Assumption Catholic Church. Evald entered the US Army in 1946, serving with the Military Police in Japan, and was honorably discharged in 1947. He married Mary Blazejewski on October 23, 1965, in Assumption Catholic Church. He farmed and lived his entire life in Wright Township. The Kujava Farm became a Century Farm in 2014.
He was active in various community affairs: Wright Township Treasurer for 33 years, member of P.N.A. Lodge 3060, Stephen American Legion, Thief River Falls VFW, served on parish council, was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and Usher for 42 years. After Evald retired, he enjoyed helping his cousins with the fieldwork. He also enjoyed working in the garden, going to sales barns with his brother-in-law, attending auctions, and playing cards.
Surviving are several godchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Barbara Banaszewski and Robert (Janice) Blazejewski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Mary, who died on April 6, 2024, Evald was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Katherine; brothers, Thomas Sr. and Harry Kujava; sisters, Gertrude Kasprowicz, Antoinette Benke, Rufina Skoquist, and Lorraine Pietruszewski; and brother-in-law, Dewayne Banaszewski Sr.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Friday, September 6, 2024, 10:30 AM, in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Florian, MN.
VISITATION: Thursday evening, September 5, staring at 5:30 PM; Rosary at 6:15 PM; Prayer Service at 6:30 PM in the Church; and one hour prior to Mass.
MILITARY HONORS: US Army Honor Guard & the Stephen American Legion Post 390.
INTERMENT: Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Florian.
